What is the right to disconnect?
The right to disconnect - what does it mean for you?
Recently the Federal Government passed the ‘right to disconnect’ legislation. How does it affect your small business?
The right to disconnect is part of a broader movement to ensure employees are not working outside of their regular hours, and are being compensated for the work they do. It means that your employees will be able to ignore messages outside of working hours within reason. If you run a business that relies on your employees responding day or night, you may have to make adjustments to your compensation scheme.
The scheme comes into effect for all businesses with more than 15 employees this week. For small businesses under 15 employees, the law will come into effect on the 26th of August 2025
